Are Your Creating Your "Field of Dreams"?
Saturday, June 21, 2008 11:07 AM

A new friend of mine, Jim Ziegler, http://www.zieglerdynamics.com/ from here in the Atlanta area recently posted a blog on another business social network on the topic "If you don't build it...they won't com".  Jim said, "As in the 1989 Kevin Costner movie, Field of Dreams http://www.fieldofdreamsmoviesite.com, a voice whispered in my subconscious..." "If you build it they will come."

Jim also went on to say:

"We joined this forum to communicate, build relationships, and conduct business...hopefully in that order. I have noticed so many members who are not active. I just fired off a number of PMs to people in my personal network urging them to build up their profiles and "Get Active" . So many people sign up and then don't participate and that is a loss to all of us. Look at how many people have never gotten around to posting their photo on their profile. (Oh, I know some do that by choice). "

I often wonder these same things.  Our network here in IBAL and others I am involved with are experiencing the same situations.  Many people join and never complete their profiles.  So my response came from thinking about building and the idea that we get to choose who we do business with, who we play with and who we want to be in our inner circle of friends.  Why?  I submit the following.

As I was contemplating the statement "If You Don't Build it They Won't Come" Interesting to just roll that thought around in my head for awhile and so many thoughts come to mind. What are we building? Why are we building it? So many people take their time to join this network and others and never bother to post any information about themselves, a photo or share where they live. I often wonder why? I manage and support a few other online business communities and it is the same everywhere. How can they build a relationship or make contacts from the basic primary level if they don't start with the basics?

My input for today is to consider what we are building and why! Are we attempting to just harvest leads or referrals? Or are we building a bridge toward ourselves and our business?  Isn't one of the goals of any networking effort to increase business?   What most people want and need at the end of the day is more business and an increase in their profits.

If we build a great bridge, they will be able to cross into our world. If we build a wonderful place and add some magic to it they will be intrigued and want more.

Then let's consider the results we want. Are we building long lasting friendships and relationships that will endure all the twists and turns in our lives? Creating future possibilities? Great business partners who can continue to encourage or indentify great client's way into our future? People we can play with and enjoy downtime and experiences?

We won't be doing the same things we are doing now forever. Who do you want to share in the rest of your dreams and days? What type of business clients or associates do you want to keep around in your world for the long term?

Let's consider what do we want to build and who do we want to come

ARE YOU READY?
Saturday, May 10, 2008 12:54 PM

Destination is not always a place...  It's a new way of looking at things

What is opportunity? There are many opinions about opportunity. You can find quote after quote on the subject. Everyone is looking for it. Many say they are ready for it. However at times they close the door to it without knowing it. Perhaps past experiences cloud their vision or fear of success. Many people get very close to realizing their dreams and give up too soon. They say they want it and they appear to be doing and saying all the right things, yet they miss them and never knew that opportunity was right there all the time. Their view of what opportunity is becomes jaded or clouded.

When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us. - Helen Keller

There are no random opportunities. For those who follow the teachings of the Law of Attraction we know that we can have intentions and learn how our words and thoughts create what is present in our lives. How we are feeling is the indicator whether we are in balance or out of balance. Often people choose to give up on themselves while placing blame for failed expectations on others. Once you become grateful for what you already have you will begin to open the door for what if! The possibilities begin to appear. To be able to identify opportunity requires understanding and vision of what it is we are looking for. It takes first believing in ourselves and expecting answers to our dreams and intentions.

Small opportunities are often the beginning of great enterprises.-Demosthenes

We can also "say" we are open to opportunity but at times our actions say differently. Some are living in denial and suspicion because deep within they really don't feel they deserve to have it. Often when launching a great enterprise it is the small opportunities together that contribute to the end results.

Are you ready for opportunity when it arrives? Ask yourself a couple of questions. What opportunity am I seeking or looking for? Do you have a description of what it looks like? Is your personal vision crystal clear? People who have a clear vision will usually recognize opportunity when it appears at their door. They open it eagerly and embrace it as a gift. Others who are not so confident peek through the cracks of the door and perhaps only open it very slightly and then slam it shut before opportunity can come all the way in. Others don't even give opportunity a good look if it appears in a different manner or at a different time than they were expecting. They have formed opinions in their own minds of how opportunity must look when it arrives and they miss it entirely.

Opportunity is missed by most because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.-Thomas Edison

Many will say it seems to too hard or elusive. Work is always involved in anything we do. When opportunity presents itself, are you willing to do what it takes to grab onto it? Even if it means something unplanned, uncomfortable or unexpected?

In observing people who seem to always be ready to jump on the train of opportunity is that they are open minded. They don't have any preconceived ideas that may prevent them from accepting the gift of ideas that spark possibilities. They often recognize that many opportunities appear small at times and are really stepping stones to larger achievements. They can also appear in unexpected circumstances and we must be ready and willing to act on them without delay or denial. Positive people don't allow anything to stop them while in pursuit of their passion!

Today we are living in the possibilities we created yesterday. Are you eagerly anticipating opportunities? Will you recognize them when they come? Many will grow fearful or weary and give up at the dor of their opportunity. Many times there is only one more step or one more day and one more push! Be ready for that opportunity and prepare for it. Decide today that you won't guit, because. . .

Your big opportunity may be right where you are now- Napoleon Hill

D estination is not always a place... It's a new way of looking at things . . . Learning this one phrase can be the thing that turns your whole world around. When things seem to go badly what do you do? What do you say? Ask yourself this question...
